The triangle formed by these intersecting roads has earned the nickname "Devil's Triangle" due to its high accident rate. This intersection ranked third in the Statewide Top 200 Crash Cost Intersections list. Two railroad crossings in the area add to the congestion.

C. S. McCrossan, as the prime contractor on this $50 million project, is building the overpass that will provide a free flow of traffic on Highway 169 by spanning across Highways 81 and 109 as well as the existing railroad tracks. The plan, which has a completion date of July 2011, will improve safety and efficiency in this high-traffic area.
