TH 169 & CSAH 81

Brooklyn Park, MN

Formerly considered one of the most congested and dangerous intersections in the area (often referred to as the Devil's Triangle), this $50M project converted the existing at-grade triangle intersections formed by TH 169, CSAH 81 and 85th Avenue, to a grade-separated interchange by constructing overpass bridges along TH 169 to span the BNSF railway, CSAH 81 and 85th Avenue. The project included construction of five curved-steel girder bridges, two concrete girder bridges and construction of over 126,000 square feet of Mechanically Stabilized Earth Walls. CSM also moved three million cubic yards of grading and granular material, placed 48,000 tons of asphalt pavement, and poured 77,000 cubic yards of concrete pavement.  The project dramatically improved safety and the overall traffic flow in the northwestern area.
