Partnering with Granite Construction, a third lane was added in each direction from Minnetonka Boulevard to Stone Road, while a full reconstruction took place from Highway 5 to 394.

This $115 million dollar design-build project began in 2004 and required three years for completion. The eight mile project, stretching from Eden Prairie to Minnetonka, is arguably best known for the addition of 14 bridges which eased traffic movement above and below 494.
In addition to the work along 494, 394 Eastbound was also widened to accommodate the exceeded capacity the roadway was experiencing due to growing travel demand in the area. In an effort to reduce the disturbance of the roadway to the public, noise walls were installed from Highway 5 to 394.
