I-494 Design-Build (TH 169 to Airport)

This 5.5-mile project includes 12 bridges, 37 retaining walls, 1M cubic yards of excavation and grading, a partial turbine interchange at I-494/I-35W, new drainage infrastructure and 300,000 SY of concrete pavement. When complete, the project will add a fourth lane in each direction which will serve as E-Z Pass lanes.

C. S. McCrossan is the Design-Build Contractor on this critical stretch of freeway in the south metro that connects residents and businesses to the Minneapolis / St. Paul International Airport as well as the Mall of America.

The project is part of a long-term vision by MnDOT that includes improvements to address current and future transportation issues on I-494. It aims to provide a transit advantage to increase the number of people who can be efficiently moved through the area; improve the reliability of the average rush-hour trip; improve safety; restore pavement to preserve infrastructure and provide a smoother ride; improve drainage systems to reduce localized flooding and reduce run-off into the Minnesota River while preserving existing bridges.
